The nine days of Navratri are full of colors, vigour and an abundance of dance. Each day comes with a colour signifying an important aspect of that day. At AIPS we celebrated Navratri with great enthusiasm, the in-charge of the event Ms. Danica Machado along with all the staff planned each day diligently so that our learners have an all – round experience.
Each day began with the daily assembly where we spoke about the colour of each day white, red, blue, yellow, green, grey, orange, peacock green and pink. We used coloured water to display the colours and also explained to them about its significance, this is to ensure that the meaning behind the festival is understood by the learners. After the assembly the learners moved to the classes where they carried out the various activities pertaining to Navratri. One of the activity was where we pasted a bookmark of the color of the day, in the bookmark was written the significance of the colour. Along with this we also made another art activity where each day they color a section of the art paper which was like a bookmark in their almanac, so at the end of the nine days they would have a colourful bookmark that they created.
In anticipation of the festival the facilitators and the learners practised dandiya and garba at regular intervals, where they played with their colourful dandiya sticks. We all had fun learning a new form of dance.
As the culmination to our nine days extensive celebration we celebrated Dusherra on 4th October where all our learners came dressed in their best Navratri outfit. As they entered school their outfits sparkled and their eyes twinkled with the excitement to celebrate the day. The celebrations began with the assembly where during the morning talk we explained to them about Dusherra and the meaning of the festival, the learners listened with a keen ear, grasping the story of Ravana and the victory of good over evil. The learners then moved to the class where they had the activity of the day that was colouring and bedazzling the image of a young couple playing dandiya. With the guidance of the facilitators the learners neatly completed the activity and displayed their art work as we clicked their pictures.
As the activity time came to an end all the learners along with the facilitators and staff came on the play area to dance and play dandiya – garba. Each one was gifted with a multi-coloured wristband creatively designed by Ms. Danica as a memento of the celebration. As the music of the festivities played all of us dance to the beats and enjoyed the moment. Sr. Gloria and Sr. Kalyani joined us too adding to the joy of our learners. As the day came to an end our learners were all overjoyed as they moved to their classes and the facilitators contented of their participation during the whole week.
